Frequently asked questions

How can it straighten my hair if the plates are flexible?

Our manganese copper alloy plates create just the right amount of flex to gather hair for extra control, while also generating the tension required for effective straightening. The result is enhanced styling with less heat – and therefore half the damage¹.

¹ Thermal damage measured by hair strength, when creating an equivalent hair style. Tested on flexing plates vs solid plates.

Can I put this hair straightener in my bag directly after use?

Yes. The Dyson Corrale™ straightener comes with a heat-resistant travel pouch to store your straightener when it's in your bag. However, we recommend always allowing your straightener to cool before storing it in the pouch. A Safety lock also secures the plates for storage after use.

Can I fly with this hair straightener, even though it's battery operated?

Yes. The Dyson Corrale™ straightener has a Flight-ready feature that disconnects the battery, designed to adhere to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations. Please always check with your airline before you fly. It also has Universal Voltage, so you can use it while you're abroad.

I just bought my straightener and can't get it to work. Why is this?

If you haven't done it already, insert your Flight-ready tag into your straightener. This will activate your straightener's controls. You should also fully charge your straightener before using it. If you're still having trouble getting started, you can watch the video at the top of this page, contact a Dyson Expert using live chat or call 0800 298 0298.

How can I maximize the run time of my straightener?

From full charge, your battery provides up to 30 minutes cord-free styling.¹ A full charge takes just 70 minutes. To maximize run time, place your straightener on the charging dock when not in use and in between styling sections. We recommend always beginning with 100% charge for maximum run time. You can find further tips to get the most from your straightener throughout your support page.

Why does my straightener feel heavier than what I’m used to?

It’s due to the advanced battery technology inside. Your straightener contains a powerful 4-cell lithium-ion battery that delivers the thermal performance of a corded straightener, cord-free. The battery placement has been engineered to provide balance in the hand, so even though there’s a little extra weight, you have maximum control while you style.

Will my straightener turn off if I accidentally leave it on?

Yes. If your straightener is left unattended with the power on for longer than five minutes, the heated flexing plates will automatically start to cool down. An alert will sound every 10 seconds and the Power button will flash. Pressing any button will re-activate your straightener. If left unattended for a further five minutes, your straightener will turn off completely.

Do I need to carry out any maintenance on my straightener?

We recommend regularly cleaning your straightener's flexing plates, to keep them working at their best. First, turn your straightener off and wait for the plates to cool. Then, gently rub the plates with a damp, lint-free cloth to remove any stubborn hair product residue.

Can I turn off the prompt sounds my straightener makes?

Your straightener will make prompt sounds at times such as when it reaches your desired temperature and when it has low battery. You can mute the prompt sounds by pressing the Power and Temperature (–) buttons at the same time for more than five seconds. For your safety, you can't mute the sounds for Sleep mode or alerts. To turn the prompt sounds back on, press and hold the buttons again.

Can I change my straightener's temperature units?

Yes. You can view your straightener's temperature in Centigrade or Fahrenheit. Simply press and hold the Power and Temperature (+) buttons for more than five seconds to switch between the two. When your preferred unit shows on the screen, release the buttons.

How does the Dyson Corrale™ styler straightener compare with other straightening tools on the market?

Unlike conventional straighteners that use solid plates, the Dyson Corrale™ straightener is the only straightener that uses flexing plates to shape and gather hair, enabling enhanced styling with less heat. This enables you to achieve the same style but with half the damage¹, reduced frizz and fewer flyaways.³

The Dyson Corrale™ straightener may feel different than a conventional straightener when you first pick it up. The weight is balanced in the hand to give maximum control when styling, and allows you to loosen your grip to let the flexing plates do the work for you.

What temperature do the plates reach? What temperature is needed for optimum performance? Does the temperature impact the damage caused to my hair?

The Dyson Corrale™ styler straightener has three different temperature settings: 330°F, 365°F and 410°F. The optimum temperature for styling will depend on your hair type and the style you're trying to achieve. Damage from extreme heat increases with the amount of heat you apply to the hair. We therefore recommend starting at the lowest temperature setting and increasing the temperature if needed. The Dyson Corrale™ straightener’s flexing plates allow you to achieve your same style but with less heat, therefore half the damage.¹

What do you mean by flexing plates?

Our flexing plates are precision engineered to the width of a human hair, with 15 micro-hinged segments on each plate. This means they can flex and adapt to your hair, controlling it during styling. They're made of a manganese copper alloy, chosen for its strength, flexibility and thermal conduction.

How much run time does the battery give you?

From full charge, you can achieve up to 30 minutes cord-free styling from the Dyson Corrale™ styler straightener. Exact run time depends on your hair type and styling habits. A full charge takes just 70 minutes. To maximize your run time, place on the charging dock when not in use and in between styling sections. The OLED screen and chime will indicate that your machine is charging properly.

We recommend always beginning with 100% charge for maximum run time.

What are some tips for styling with the Dyson Corrale™ styler straightener for the first time?

Prep your hair: before styling, ensure your hair is detangled and completely dry. For best results, section hair before styling.

Temperature: begin at a medium heat (330°F) and adjust up or down depending on your hair type and texture.

Loosen grip: because the flexing plates shape to gather your hair, you can loosen your grip when styling, letting the machine do the work for you.

Tress size: the perfect tress size will depend on your hair type. Try a few different section sizes and see what works best for you. If you have coarse hair, begin with a smaller section. If you have fine hair, try larger sections for a smoother glide.

Position of tress: to maximize the benefits of the flexing plates, ensure your tress is in the middle of the plates when styling.

Styling your ends: if you have fine hair, it may be difficult to style your ends. For a smooth glide, try styling the roots and mid-lengths of hair first, and style the ends last so you can take larger sections of hair. This allows the flexing plates to fully gather the section of hair.

Styling products: define your end style with Dyson Chitosan™ Post-style serum for instant hydration and shine, with flexible hold.

Styling speed: flexing plates allow you to style hair in one, slow pass vs. multiple quick passes. To slow down your movements, try using one second per inch as a baseline. Speed may vary by hair type.
