Clean the bin and cyclone
Press the button at the top of the cyclone handle and remove the bin from the machine.

Press the button again to open the bin base and release the dust.
This can be done directly into a Bin, or into a bag wrapped around the cyclone.

Press the grey button near the rectangular inlet to separate the clear bin from the cyclone.
The clear bin can be wiped with a damp cloth.
WARNING: Do not use any detergent or polish on any part of the machine.

Check the bin and cyclone for blockages and remove as necessary.
Ensure that the bleed valve at the top of the cyclone is free of debris and moves freely when pressed.
Clear any hair or fibres from the cyclone shroud.
WARNING: Do not use any water on the cyclone.

Assembly instructions
Lay the machine on its back.
Attach the Cleaner head by sliding it on to the connections on the lower front part of the ball. Ensure the electrical plug on the Cleaner head fits into the twin–block connection on the body of the machine which is directly above the airway.
Push firmly: the Cleaner head will click into place.

Attach the Wand.
Attach Wand to top of hose so that it 'clicks' into place.
Fit the bottom of the Wand to the machine ensuring that it 'clicks' into place.
Slide the metal section of the Wand down through the hose and cover the top with the Wand cap.

Store the tools
Attach the tools to the holder on the side of the machine.

How to use the Brush bar
Note: The Brush bar will automatically switch on when the machine is reclined into the vacuuming position.
Press the brush control button next to the On/Off switch to stop the brushes for use on delicate rugs, loop pile carpets and hard floors.

Press the button again to restart the brushes for vacuuming carpets.
Carrying your Dyson machine
Lift the machine only by the carry handle on the cyclone top.

For your safety, do not press the cyclone release when carrying your machine.
How to start vacuuming
Plug the machine in.
Pull handle back and recline machine into vacuuming position ensuring the stabilising wheels are facing up towards the back of the machine.
Press the ON/OFF switch.
Small movements of the wrist will create a zig zag motion in the Cleaner head allowing easier cleaning around furniture.

Extend the wand until it clicks.
Press the wand release button and lift the wand out of the hose.
Lift the wand handle cap and push on to the hose until it clicks into place.
Push the combination tool on to the end of the wand handle.
Alternatively, click the combination tool directly to the hose.

Attaching the accessories
Pull the Wand upwards and out of the machine.
Attach either the combination tool or the stair tool to the Wand or hose.

Serial number location
Remove the bin from the machine.
The serial number can be found behind the bin on the Main duct.

Clear the Cleaner head
Turn off and unplug the machine.
Lay the machine on its back.

Remove the Cleaner head by pushing the tab underneath and lifting the Cleaner head upwards. Separate the Cleaner head from the machine.

Using a coin, undo the end cap and remove the Brush bar.

Carefully cut away any hair or fibers using scissors.
Check the Brush bar and end cap for signs of damage.

Check the opening on the Cleaner head for blockages and remove as necessary.

Reassemble the machine
Locate the end of the Brush bar that has a small screw in the center. Place the end cap on this end.

Push the Brush bar back into the Cleaner head.
Close the end cap and lock it using a coin.

Push the head onto the machine until it clicks into place.

Check that the Brush bar spins when the machine is reclined and power turned on.
If there was a blockage in the inlet or Cleaner head please ensure tests are carried out as there may be blockages further through the machine.
Retest the machine.

How to install this part
Only remove the valve hose if you feel you are able to refit it. It is slightly more difficult to refit than the lower duct hose.
Check the changeover valve
Remove the bin.

Check that the teardrop-shaped piece of clear plastic is in place and moves freely.
This should rotate from one side to the other when the Wand is pulled up and replaced in the machine.

Check the rectangular inlet for blockages and remove as necessary.

The flexible hose behind the teardrop can be removed from the top end to clear a blockage.

With the Wand removed, check that the hatch at the rear of the machine moves freely and is not obstructed.

Check the bin and cyclone
Press the button at the top of the cyclone handle and remove the bin from the machine.

Press the button again to open the bin base.

Press the grey button near the rectangular inlet to remove the clear bin from the cyclone.

Check the bin and cyclone for blockages and remove as necessary.

Remove the filters
Your machine has two washable filters which require washing at least once every 3 months.
Remove the clear bin from your machine by pressing the cyclone release catch as shown.

To remove filter A, lift the filter release catch on top of the bin to remove the filter from the machine.

To remove filter B firstly recline the machine. Press the release catch located on the ball to release the filter cover. Press the red catch on the filter and pull out.

Wash both filters in cold water only.
WARNING: Please do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine.
Repeat the steps until the water runs clear.
Filter B should be rinsed and tapped out until the water runs clear, then tapped out again to ensure all excess water is removed. This will normally require up to 10 rinses.

Dry filters
Leave the filters to dry in a warm place for 24 hours, until completely dry.
Replace filters and test machine.

Turn the machine on and test the suction from the hose.

Is the suction from the hose strong or weaker than usual?

Look through the Wand and remove any blockages.
Check the Wand for damage.

When did the machine last have power?
Thermal cut out
Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.
Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.

What sort of smell?
Check the bin and cyclone
A damp or musty smell is caused when dust in the cyclone has come into contact with water.
It may not be a direct contact with water, for example when vacuuming pet hair that is slightly damp, this moisture will combine with the dust in the cyclone causing the smell.
Additionally the smell may occur if the filter goes back into the machine wet.
Press the button at the top of the cyclone handle and remove the bin from the machine.

Press the button again to open the bin base and release the dust.
This can be done directly into a Bin, or into a bag wrapped around the cyclone.

Press the grey button near the rectangular inlet to separate the clear bin from the cyclone.
The clear bin can be wiped with a damp cloth.
WARNING: Do not use any detergent or polish on any part of the machine.

Untwist the hose
This issue could be caused by a twisted hose.
If the Wand is jammed in the hose begin by removing the bin.
Please follow the steps as shown in the video below.
Pull the Wand up as high as it will go.
Press the hose release catch and pull it away from the back of the machine.
Untwist and refit the hose.
If the hose pulls out to the top but does not release, this issue can be resolved by booking a repair.
If the wand won't return to the hose

Stabiliser
Place one hand on each stabilizer wheel and press down towards the floor quickly and firmly until there is a click.
Check the left hand side of the stabilizer, pedal and duct pivot for damage. If any of these parts are damaged book a repair.

Check the stabilizer
Unplug the machine.
A pin is located on either side of the red peddle. If the pin is out of position, this can be resolved by moving the pin back into the right slot.
Lay the machine on its front so that the stabilizer is clearly visible.
When standing behind the machine with the wand pointing away from you, locate the stabilizer pins.
Push pins back into place
It may be possible to push the pin(s) back into place.
Lay the machine on its front and push the pins back into the runners.

Recline the machine by placing your foot on the stabilizer pedal, if you feel some resistance, inspect the area for damage.

Recline the machine and lay it on its back.

Press the button on the ball and remove the post-filter cover.
Press the release catch on the filter and pull filter out of the ball.

Empty the bin
Press the button at the top of the handle and remove the bin from the machine.

Press the button again to open the bin base and release the dust.
This can be done directly into a Bin, or into a bag wrapped around the cyclone.

To completely detach the bin from the cyclone - press the release catch at the top of the clear bin.
