Emptying the bin

Remove the bin from the machine by pressing the bin release catch located to the side of the bin.

Locate the shroud wiper and pull from its position to remove.

Check the hose and seals

Remove the extension tube from the wand handle by pressing the grey switch on the handle.

Check there are no cracks in the handle.

Remove the hose assembly fully from the machine and check there are no rips or tears in the hose.

Remove the bin fully from the machine and check that the inlet on the machine is not damaged.

Check the inlet located on the main body of the machine, ensure the seal is not torn.

Check the lower duct hose is not torn or twisted.

Remove the clear bin and cyclone assembly from the machine by pressing the red catch located on top of the cyclone assembly. Check that the bin base seal is not damaged or missing.

Attatch the hose and bin to the machine ensuring both 'Click' into place

Turn the machine on.

Test the machine

Check the extension tube, wand handle and hose

Separate the extension tube from the wand handle by pressing the release catch on the wand handle.

Remove the wand handle from the hose by pressing the release catch on the hose.

Press the release catch and remove the hose from the appliance.

Check the extension tube, wand handle and hose for blockages; remove as necessary.

The inspection hose

Unscrew the two Phillips screws on the clear bin locator bracket. (Do not remove any other screws.) Remove the bracket.

Firmly twist the flexible inspection hose away from the inlet next.

Inspect for blockages and remove as necessary.

Refit the flexible inspection hose and clear bin locator bracket.

Rebuild and test the machine.

The Musclehead will automatically adjust from hard floors to carpets, and carpet to hard floors. It does not need to be manually adjusted for different floor types.

How to use the Musclehead floor tool

The bleed valves can be opened if there is too much suction. If the performance is poor with the bleed valve open, they should be closed again

Checking the floor tool

The brushbar on the turbine head will start spinning as soon as the machine is turned on. You can toggle the brushbar spin speed by pulling the air release trigger on the wand handle.

There is no need to turn the brushbar on and off for different floor types as the floor tool has a row of anti-static carbon fibre filaments to remove fine dust from hard floors, and stiff nylon brushes remove ground-in dirt from carpets. There's no need to turn the brush bar off when moving from one floor type to another.

Remove the turbine head from the extension wand by pressing the release catch.

Use a coin to turn the fastener anti-clockwise and remove the brushbar.

When did the machine last have power?

Thermal cut out

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because your machine is blocked.

Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.

Ensure the machine is switched off.

Unplug the machine before rewinding the cable

If the cable does not rewind, firmly pull it out and fully extend it until the red tape is visible.

The cord rewind button needs to be pressed down firmly to retract the cord for storage after use. When the button is pressed down far enough you should feel and hear a click, and the cord will retract.

Debris can become stuck between the shroud and the bin, this could be caused by static or overfilling the bin.

Remove the bin and turn on the machine

When the bin lid is open a small silver button behind the red opening mechanism should be exposed; press the silver button.

Separate the cyclone unit from the clear bin.

Cleaning the bin

Clean the clear bin with cold water only.

WARNING: Do not use detergents, polishes or air fresheners to clean the clear bin. Do not put the clear bin in a dishwasher. Do not immerse the cyclone unit in water or pour water into the cyclones.

Clean the cyclone

Clean the cyclone shroud with a cloth or the Combination tool to remove lint and dust.

WARNING: Do not use water.

Reassemble the bin

Ensure the clear bin is completely dry before replacing on the machine.

Fit the cyclone shroud into the clear bin so that the silver button clicks and engages. Ensure that the front of the clear bin is locked in place.

Close the clear bin base so that it clicks into place securely.

Place the clear bin and cyclone into position on the front of the main body. The recess in the base of the clear bin must fit onto the lug on the locator bracket.

Push the carrying handle down so it clicks into place on the top of the clear bin and cyclone ensuring it is secure.

Correct wand position

When the wand is in a vertical position the dual mode floor tool may not adjust between hard floor and carpet modes.

If the machine is powered on and the head is in ErP Max Mode, it will be hard to impossible to change floor mode of the cleaner head.

Ensure the power is turned off and the wand is in a normal vacuuming position as shown and retry adjusting the dual mode between hard floor and carpet positions.

Assembling your Dyson machine

  • Attach the hose to the hose inlet on the front of the machine.
  • Clip the hose to the rear of the wand handle.
  • Clip the wand handle to the extension tube.

Reassemble the bin

  • Ensure the clear bin is completely dry before replacing on the machine.
  • Fit the cyclone shroud into the clear bin so that the silver button clicks and engages. Ensure that the front of the clear bin is locked in place.
  • Close the clear bin base so that it clicks into place securely.
  • Place the clear bin and cyclone into position on the front of the main body. The recess in the base of the clear bin must fit onto the lug on the locator bracket.
  • Push the carrying handle down so it clicks into place on the top of the clear bin and cyclone ensuring it is secure.
