Please select the appropriate option

Check the cleaner head

Turn off power, lay the machine flat on the floor and turn over so that the base can be viewed.

Using a coin, turn each fastener by a quarter.

Remove the soleplate.

Carefully remove any blockages from the brushbar using a pair of scissors to cut away any hair and fibres from the brushbar if necessary and check if the belt has been damaged.

Re-attach the soleplate by first lining it up at the front, and then securing the three fasteners.

Re-test the machine. If the noise is still present, this issue could be resolved by booking a repair.

If the belt is slack or broken or the brushbar has snapped, this issue could be resolved by booking a repair.

Test the suction

If your machine is making a whistling noise, this indicates that there is a blockage or a damaged/missing seal.

Make sure the machine is standing in the upright position.

Pull back the wand cap.

Turn the machine on and place your hand on the end of the wand.

Is the suction strong or weaker than normal?

Does the brushbar turn with the power on?

Lay the machine on its side, keeping it in the vacuuming position.

Turn the machine on, ensuring that the bare floor setting is not selected.

Is the brushbar spinning?

Check the cleaner head

Turn off power, lay the machine flat on the floor and turn over so that the base can be viewed.

Using a coin, turn each fastener by a quarter.

Remove the soleplate. Inspect the internal hose for blockages or and damage. Both ends of the internal hose pull away. If the internal hose is split choose 'part broken'. When refitting, push firmly to connect and ensure that both ends of the hose are fitted securely.

Carefully remove any blockages from the brushbar using a pair of scissors to cut away any hair and fibres from the brushbar if necessary.

Re-attach the soleplate by first lining it up at the front, and then securing the three fasteners.

Re-test the machine.

Check duct, bin and cyclone

Turn the machine off and remove the cyclone and bin assembly.

Check the duct

Check the entry seal located on the left side of the duct is not missing or damaged.

Check the entry pipe and exhuast pipe on the main duct for any blockages and remove as necessary.

Check the bin and cyclone

Check the cyclone entry seal is not missing or damaged.

Check both entry inlets on the clear bin and cyclone for blockages and remove as necessary.

Open the bin lid being careful to ensure dust is captured.

Release the clear bin from the cyclone by pressing the button on the back of the cyclone.

Clean the cyclone with a dry cloth and shake or tap firmly to remove all dust from inside the fine dust collector. Check the cyclone seal is not missing or damaged.

If any parts are missing or damaged select 'part broken'.

Re-assemble and test machine

Wash the filter step by step

Please watch this video to learn how to wash the filter of your machine.

Has washing the filters resolved the problem?

Wash the filters

Press the release catch and remove the filter housing from the machine.

Remove the filter from the housing.

Remove the clear bin and cyclone from the machine.

Lift the release catch located on the filter lid and remove the filter.

Wash both filters in cold water only until the water runs clear. Do not use detergent. Do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine.

Leave to dry in a warm place for 12-24 hours. Do not dry the filters in a tumble dryer, microwave, oven or near a naked flame.

Ensure the filters are completely dry before replacing in the machine.

The filters should be washed at least once every 3-6 months.

Disconnect the wand from the hose. Stretch out the hose and check for any splits.

Plug the machine in and switch it on. Place your hand over the end of the hose and test the suction.

Is the suction from the hose strong or weaker than usual?

Look through the wand. You should see light shining through. If not remove the blockage.

Connect the wand to the hose and test the machine

Checking the hose and U-bend

Turn off power and unplug the machine.

Lay the machine on to its side and open the U-bend cover.

Check inside the U-bend for blockages and remove if necessary.

Check the hose for blockages and remove if necessary. Ensure the hose is fitted correctly at the base of the machine.

Check the bin and cyclone

The rattling noise may be caused by debris in the clear bin or cyclone.

Remove the bin assembly by pressing the catch on top of the carry handle.

Push the button to release dust directly into a dustbin or bag.

Shake or tap firmly to remove all dust from inside the fine dust collector, and check the bin is completely empty.

Press firmly on the centre of the clear bin base to close before placing back on the machine.

Test the machine.

Is the rattle still present?

Test the suction

The rattling noise may be caused by a blockage in the machine, so the following blockage checks should be carried out.

Make sure the machine is standing in the upright position.

Pull back the wand cap.

Turn the machine on and place your hand on the end of the wand.

Is the suction strong or weaker than usual?

Check the brushbar

The brushbar will not rotate when the vacuum cleaner is in the upright position. Recline the machine back into the vacuuming position and turn the machine on.

Look through the clear brushbar housing to see if the brushbar is spinning.

Check the mini turbine head

Undo the fastener with a coin.

Remove the brushbar from the mini turbine head.

Clear any hair, threads and debris from the brushbar. Inspect the duct on the underside of the turbine head for blockages and remove if necessary.

Refit the brushbar and fasten the mini turbine head fastener with a coin.

Test the mini turbine head on the machine

Has this resolved the problem?

Check performance or wash filters

The mini turbine head will work if the suction is strong. This issue could be resolved by carrying out performance checks or washing the filter.

Thermal cut out

Most Dyson vacuum have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat.

This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.

Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.

Please select the appropriate option

Wash the filters

Press the release catch and remove the filter housing from the machine.

Remove the filter from the housing.

Remove the clear bin and cyclone from the machine.

Lift the release catch located on the filter lid and remove the filter.

Wash both filters in cold water only until the water runs clear. Do not use detergent. Do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine.

Leave to dry in a warm place for 12-24 hours. Do not dry the filters in a tumble dryer, microwave, oven or near a naked flame.

Ensure the filters are completely dry before replacing in the machine.

The filters should be washed at least once every 3-6 months.

Thermal cut-out

This vacuum is fitted with a thermal cut-out.

If any part of the vacuum becomes blocked, it may overheat and automatically cut-out. Switch ‘OFF’ and unplug the vacuum and leave to cool down for at least 60 minutes before checking filters or for blockages.

The customer may need to end the call and call back to ensure this issue is not a result of Thermal cut out.

Carpet mode

Re-set the carpet mode by selecting the button for a different floor type then re-selecting the button for the desired floor type.

Reset brushbar

To reset the brush bar press a different floor type then re-select the button for desired floor type.

Please note: In normal use, the brush bar automatically turns OFF when the machine is upright and automatically turns ON when the machine is in the vacuuming position.

Check the U-bend

Turn off and unplug the machine.

Standing behind the machine, lay it on its left side.

On the right side, by the back wheel you will find the U-bend.

Check the U-bend for obstructions

NB. Ensure there is no debris or blockages in the U-bend

Stand the machine and test.
